Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Helps Ease Migraines
Cosmetic plastic surgery used to smoothen wrinkles on the forehead can now ease migraines. This inference emerges from a five- year study led by Dr. Bahman Guyuron of University Hospitals Case Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. The study finds place in the current issue of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Guyuron and colleagues first tested 69 migraine patients with botulinum toxin A – Botox, to confirm the correct trigger sites that needed to be addressed through cosmetic plastic surgery. Then tracking the progress of patients, who had undergone the cosmetic plastic surgery, Guyuron and his colleagues, found that headaches of 60% of the patients had reduced, while 29% did not suffer from migraines anymore. The remaining patients did not record any change in their headaches after the cosmetic plastic surgery, but their wrinkles lessened successfully.
