The Brazilian surgeon who performed Gadhafi's plastic surgery in 1995 is giving details of the operation. He said that in the operation fat was taken from Gadhafi's belly and transplanted into his face to alleviate wrinkles. It happened while the plastic surgeon was at a conference in Tripoli. He was approached by a representative of Gadhafi, and led into an underground bunker, complete with a swimming pool, gym and two state-of-the-art operating rooms.
Gadhafi told the surgeon that he had been in power for 25 years at that time, and he didn't want to appear to be an old man to the young people of his nation. Gadhafi refused the recommendation of a face lift, because he said he wanted something that would be less noticeable. The operation was performed by a team of Brazilian surgeons, who also performed a hair transplant on the leader at the same time.

Cosmetic plastic surgery has increased year on year by over 5% as the over 13 million Americans paid up for procedures in 2010. This increase could be due to pent up demand by consumers who put off getting work done during the recession, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
The increase also hints at a rise in consumer confidence as people see the economy being to pick up.
Reconstructive plastic surgeries rose by 2 percent, while minimally invasive procedures led the increase, rising by 5%. Overall the top surgical procedures were breast augmentation, nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, liposuction, and tummy tuck. There was also an increase in minimally-invasive face lifts, and procedures like upper arm lifts, thigh lifts and breast lifts were popular following significant weight loss.
