Plastic surgery has grown at a rapid pace over the past ten years, increasing 77% overall in the US. Most of that growth was fueled by demand from females, but that is starting to change. It's not just women who are looking to get a nip or tuck anymore, as more men are also jumping on the plastic surgery bandwagon.
So far, facelifts are the most popular procedure for men. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says there has been a 14% increase in the number of facelifts from 2009 to 2010 alone. Other procedures that are gaining in popularity among men are ear surgery, which is up 11%, and soft tissue fillers, up 10%. Over 1 million men underwent cosmetic procedures during the last year alone, including breast reduction surgeries which increased 6%. Most guys who had this surgery are under 30, and they are tired of being embarrassed by this issue. Most that have the surgery don't want anyone to know they've had it done, but they are thrilled with the results.

Cosmetic surgery proved fatal for approximately 32 people including, young mothers, middle-aged men and grandparents residing in Florida. Even in the 90's same number of people died because of cosmetic surgery, which led the Board of Medicine to pass rules restricting cosmetic techniques performed in doctors' clinics.
One of the reasons for these deaths is an increasing growth in the field of cosmetic surgery. The industry experts are in the opinion that this problem still exists, and the state government needs to act on it. Becky Cherney, a health care advocate from Orlando, in recharge of passing the new rules for cosmetic surgery, said, "If the number of deaths is increasing due to cosmetic surgery, something still might be going wrong and it is an irrational loss of life".

Two Colombian nationals were arrested in Las Vegas on Sunday in connecting with the death of a 42 year old woman after a botched plastic surgery procedure. The pair who attempted to perform the procedure have been charged with murder. This is another case where a woman who sought out inexpensive and off-the-record plastic surgery has lost her life. These cases are becoming all too common as black market plastic surgery is on the rise across the country.
In February, for example, a young woman died after receiving butt enhancement injections in a Philadelphia hotel room. Doctors later said that the silicone had entered her vascular system and ultimately stopped her heart. These tragedies are entirely preventable, and it is surprising that so many women in the pursuit of beauty and perfection are conned by people who have no medical training, resources or certification.
